New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart introduced President Trump at a Rockland Community College rally on May 22. The second-year passer became the center of a sports-and-politics storm in the days that followed.

On May 29, Dart addressed reporters directly. He stated he respects the office of the presidency and emphasized that the team discussed the matter without letting it fester.

Dart said: “I appreciate you all being here… This was a unique opportunity to introduce the President of the United States… The President position has always been one I respect regardless of political affiliation.”

He also noted: “I love every single one of my brothers, my teammates on this team, regardless of politics, religious beliefs, or anything else.”

Outside linebacker Abdul Carter publicly disagreed with Dart’s decision but maintained their strong team relationship. Carter stated: “Jaxson is one of our leaders… It’s my responsibility to show my teammates I’m against that… We talk and we share the same goals.”

President Trump publicly defended Dart.

Dart did not duck the moment or hide behind a publicist’s statement.
