Kia has initiated a recall of approximately 39,536 2021-2023 Sorento vehicles due to a faulty HVAC system posing a fire hazard. The issue involves inadequate blower motor wiring harnesses, which could overheat and lead to combustion. Affected owners will receive notifications by November 24 and are advised to visit authorized dealers for free repairs, including replacement of the blower motor resistor circuit harness and blower motor resistor. Kia attributed the defect to quality control lapses at a Mexican parts supplier, resulting in unusually thin wiring gauges. Warning signs include inoperable HVAC components, burning smells, or smoke from vents. The recall excludes 2024 Sorento models, which feature an updated HVAC system.
