Polish officials confirmed that their military intercepted Russian drones that entered Polish airspace during an attack on western Ukraine. Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk stated, “An operation to neutralize objects violating the Republic of Poland’s border is underway. The President and Prime Minister have been notified.” He emphasized, “All services are operational. Please follow announcements from the Polish Army and Police.”

Prime Minister Donald Tusk reiterated, “We received a report on drones infiltrating our airspace that could pose a threat. The operation continues.” The Polish Operational Command of the Armed Forces attributed the drone incursion to Russian attacks on Ukraine, declaring it an act of aggression. “The unprecedented violation of Polish airspace by drone-type objects is a direct threat to citizens,” the command stated.

Defensive measures were activated, with the military neutralizing drones and searching for crash sites. Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz added, “Aircraft engaged hostile objects. NATO coordination is ongoing. Territorial Defense Forces are conducting ground searches. Avoid approaching debris and notify authorities.”

U.S. officials responded to the incident. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed awareness of reports, while Rep. Joe Wilson accused Russia of targeting Poland shortly after a meeting with Polish President Karol Nawrocki. He called it “an act of war” and urged sanctions against Russia. Sen. Chris Murphy expressed concern over potential Russian aerial presence in NATO territory.
