Indiana Gov. Mike Braun signed a proclamation designating June as “Nuclear Family Month” in the state, citing his role as a father of four and grandfather of seven. “As we approach America’s 250th anniversary, this proclamation recognizes the important role families play in shaping the future of our state and our country,” Braun stated in remarks announcing the designation.

The move aligns with other U.S. governors who have adopted alternative observances for June instead of Pride Month. Tennessee’s legislature recently passed a joint resolution declaring its own “Nuclear Family Month,” referencing “God’s perfect design for humanity” within families structured as husband-and-wife units. Governors of Arkansas and Utah previously proclaimed June “Fidelity Month,” emphasizing commitment to family, country, and faith without restricting such fidelity to heterosexual couples.

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt also declared June “Life Month,” stating the state would “walk alongside every mother” to protect unborn children from conception through birth. In Arkansas, Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders described the observance as promoting “fidelity to family, country, and God.”

All proclamations frame the month around principles of faith, liberty, patriotism, and familial values, drawing on historical references to the U.S. founding and President George Washington’s emphasis on virtue in self-government. The initiatives highlight state commitments to spiritual and civic institutions as central to their identity.
