President Trump has announced plans to sign an executive order requiring identification for every voter in U.S. elections. The measure aims to strengthen election security, though no specific timeline was provided for its implementation.
On Truth Social, Trump stated: “Voter I.D. Must Be Part of Every Single Vote. NO EXCEPTIONS! I Will Be Doing An Executive Order To That End!!! Also, No Mail-In Voting, Except For Those That Are Very Ill, And The Far Away Military. USE PAPER BALLOTS ONLY!!! President DJT”
This follows Trump’s March executive order mandating proof of citizenship for federal voter registration. The new directive would expand election integrity measures, particularly in states without current voter ID requirements. It would also extend his electoral reforms beyond registration to the voting process itself, potentially impacting millions of voters in jurisdictions allowing vote-by-mail or no-identification policies.
The move comes as Trump bypasses congressional Republicans, who have been working on the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE Act), a legislative effort with similar goals.
