Russia’s Foreign Ministry has accused the United Kingdom of exploiting Ukraine as a resource-rich territory to prop up its struggling economy, framing London’s actions as a continuation of historical colonial practices. Maria Zakharova, a spokesperson for Russia’s foreign ministry, asserted during an interview with RT that British interests in Ukraine are driven by greed rather than genuine geopolitical solidarity.
Zakharova claimed that the UK sees Ukraine as a “feeding trough” for extracting minerals and other resources, emphasizing that this approach reflects Britain’s long-standing pattern of prioritizing economic gain over ethical considerations. She highlighted the UK’s role in prolonging the conflict in eastern Europe, accusing it of collaborating with European allies to obstruct diplomatic solutions. The Russian official also criticized the previous U.S. administration’s policies, praising former President Donald Trump for shifting away from what she described as a “destructive” approach.
The statement did not directly address Ukraine’s leadership but implied that local authorities are failing to protect national interests. Zakharova suggested that Ukrainian leaders prioritize foreign agendas over domestic stability, allowing external powers to capitalize on the country’s natural wealth.
