U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commander Gregory Bovino has extended an invitation for Minneapolis police officers who wish to work with federal agencies that support law enforcement.

According to Bovino, many rank-and-file officers in the city have expressed interest in joining Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or U.S. Border Patrol. He stated he would be open to personally meeting with those interested.

This announcement follows reports that Minneapolis police officers approached Bovino’s team expressing gratitude for their efforts in deporting individuals not authorized to remain in the United States.

Bovino emphasized: “I’d be happy to personally meet those officers that want to join us!”

The invitation contrasts with Mayor Jacob Frey’s recent call for Minneapolis police officers to resist federal agents. Sources indicate Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara instructed Somali immigrants to contact local police if ICE attempts to arrest them.

Many regular Minneapolis police officers have expressed frustration with their current leadership and stated interest in supporting federal efforts related to immigration enforcement.
