The video shows Mayor Mamdani continuing without pausing to respond, accompanied by his security detail. Another attendee countered, “He represents me, and I’m also Hispanic.” A man with a microphone urged the community not to let politics divide the celebration.
Organizers had named Mayor Mamdani as one of the honorary marshals for the event, alongside Roberto Rojas as grand marshal. The incident occurred amid ongoing political complexities in the Bronx, where preliminary results from the 2025 Democratic mayoral primary showed Andrew Cuomo defeating Mamdani by a margin of 54% to 36%.
This confrontation highlights the challenges officials face when entering unscripted community settings without an audience controlled by political considerations.
