After publicly announcing he has left the Republican Party, Tucker Carlson stated he will “help build a third party” to compete against both major parties.
“The country needs a good-faith effort to figure out what benefits its citizens,” Carlson said. “If you make sixty thousand dollars a year, you’re degraded. Your life expectancy has gone down, and the promise of your children’s lives is likely gone. No one seems to care.”
The announcement follows Carlson’s recent declaration that he would not support the GOP in the 2026 midterm elections.
“How could I or any American voter support a political party that isn’t loyal to the United States? That puts the interests of a foreign country above those of its own citizens,” Carlson said last month. “It’s impossible to vote for people like that, and I’m not going to.”
Carlson has criticized Trump’s foreign policy, particularly the administration’s military actions against Iran, arguing the president has abandoned “America First” principles. These disagreements have widened into a broader rejection of the GOP, with Carlson stating he no longer sees the party as representing his political values.
In his third-party announcement, Carlson spoke about declining American quality of life, emphasizing that “the U.S. government should prioritize the welfare of its own people.” He added: “I officially don’t care about Hamas.”
“I’ve been a consistent defender of the Republican Party for 35 years,” Carlson said. “But there’s no defending this because it’s immoral.”
“And it’s exactly the opposite of what a political party in a democracy is charged with doing—representing its voters, citizens, and nation,” he continued. “They’re not doing that.”
“So, I’m out. And if I’m out, then many others are out too,” Carlson said.
When asked whether he would run for the new party, Carlson replied: “I don’t want to be a candidate.”
The text also notes that Elon Musk previously launched an informal political venture last year, criticizing U.S. politics as a one-party system that “bankrupts our country with waste & graft.” Musk’s “America Party” was never officially established and his relationship with Trump has since improved.
Carlson noted that if he follows through on creating a third party, it will require registration with the Federal Election Commission.
